In the months leading up to their family session, Marybeth and I would talk over the phone, exchange emails and were even able to meet up in New York City where her family lives. I loved being able to reconnect while getting to know each other beyond the years of being high school classmates and former teammates. It was a very special time learning more about her family in the months leading up to our time together in June.
From my perspective, Parenthood for Marybeth and John is met with simplicity. They find joys in being together, in giving back to their community, while appreciating each other and the beautiful life they are building together through all the seasons.
Adventures together is how they do life.
For their portrait session, they traveled from New York City to Connecticut for the weekend visiting family and chose Elizabeth Park in West Hartford as the location because it reminded them of Central Park, the backdrop for many of their family picnics and where some of their fondest family memories are made. And when Marybeth brilliantly shared with me that Elizabeth Park was co-designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same architect who designed Central Park, well it was hands-down the most perfect setting for their photographs.

Throughout the planning stages, Marybeth shared how precious this time in their lives is for them, watching their girls grow and change, and how motherhood allows her to feel most content and present. I fell in love with their love and the affection and tenderness they so naturally show towards each other. It is clear that family unity is everything to them and togetherness is how they carry out their days. Documenting them in this joyful season of their life was truly an honor.
After hugging them all goodbye, I took some time to walk around the Rose Garden as the last of the sunset light was fading. I remember feeling so grateful to have this time with their sweet family and being able to do what I love so much- to preserve these life moments for tomorrow, for their darling girls to remember what life was like when they were young.
