Throughout the years of photographing families, the one constant reflection I hear from the mothers I photograph is how parenthood allows parents to feel more present in their daily lives. How they don’t get tied up with the crazy when it’s the simplest of moments that their children do which brings them so much pure joy and happiness. A single snowflake falling from the sky, a stick figure drawing they made at school, a hand-picked flower or a bug they curiously found in the dirt.
Parenthood has the magic of allowing parents to be in the now.
I remember Bridget’s excitement that was spilling over when she inquired about a portrait session to document this joyous time in her family’s lives as their first born son was turning one in November.
She connected with the words on my website, my work, and the heart behind the portraits I create for my families. I looked forward all summer to their November session!
It was a chilly November day, but Bridget and John, “JR” were up for braving the cold. Having met them prior to their session, they are the most loving, grateful couple and I knew they would enjoy every minute of this special time together with their son and would love being cozied up to keep each other warm.
Their connection, appreciation for one another and for the beauty this past year has brought into their lives is a wonderful reminder of all the things that deserve to be celebrated and cherished.
Their session was photographed at a local Connecticut farm that they have visited together before, a location that matched Bridget’s vision for their memories.
There is something so special about documenting the magic of now. It was such a pleasure getting to know and working with this loving family for their first professional photographs as a family of three. I am so glad they have these memories to look back on as they grow through the years.
